Mission & Vision
The mission of Hope Doulas is to provide holistic and hopeful doula services to the dying and their families. I started Hope Doulas in 2026 to provide a non-medical complement to hospice and palliative care teams. I focus on dignifying the transition period and providing a peaceful end-of-life experience.
The vision of Hope Doulas is to educate and inform our culture around the dying process. My philosophy is that death is a life-affirming, natural process and not simply a medical event. Because Hope Doulas is life-affirming, I believe that all life is good, even the dying life.
Della’s Story
Della was a dying, elderly patient I took care of during training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It was my first week on the hall, and I was walking past a door that was cracked open. Inside was Della crying and scared. She kept saying, “I am dying”. “Please sit with me.” I knew in my heart that she was dying and had very little time left, so I stopped all of my other tasks and sat with her. I held her hand and told her everything would be alright. I was sitting with her for about ten minutes, when the charge nurse on the hall came into the room and told me I had other tasks to do. “I couldn’t simply sit with patients.” I told her Della was dying but she didn’t believe me and made me leave. As I was walking back down the hall, I could hear Della crying again. 20 minutes later she had died, alone and afraid. I vowed in that moment never to let that happen again. It is my great privilege to sit with people as they transition from this world. If you are transitioning from this life and want someone to sit with you, please contact me!
